The Center for Disease Control estimates that in the United States alone, food poisoning causes about 76 million illnesses, 300,000 hospitalizations, and up to 5,000 deaths each year. Good personal hygiene and proper food handling play a vital role in the health and well-being of not only yourself but to those whom you also serve. Most foodborne illness outbreaks are a result of contamination from food handlers. Sanitary food handling, proper cooking and refrigeration should prevent most foodborne illnesses.
