Online Training for Back Safety – General Version

Back injuries are considered by OSHA (the Occupational Safety and Health Administration) as the nation’s #1 workplace safety problem. Back injuries are often very painful, a long-term or lifetime disability, and expensive to diagnose and treat.

Good posture, exercise and eating healthy can help prevent back injuries and help keep the back healthy. In addition, proper lifting and carrying of objects is also very necessary for the health of the back.

In most work situations, objects that are very heavy are lifted and carried by machines such as forklifts. However, there are times when you may have to lift, adjust, or carry a heavy object. It is at these times that you run the risk of injuring your back. Never use your back to lift.  There are lifting techniques which should be used to lift and carry objects. Proper lifting and carrying will protect your back from injury and pain.

This online training program will assist employers in providing the proper training on back safety. This course will take approximately 30 minutes to complete and will cover the following topics:

  • Structure of the back
  • Causes of back pain
  • Proper lifting and carrying
  • Equipment for lifting and moving
  • Additional back safety guidelines
  • Maintaining a healthy back

A printable certificate will be available upon successful completion of this online safety training course.  This certification can be used to verify training as required by OSHA.
