Employees work at elevated heights in many work situations. The type of work performed may vary from place to place but the means by which employees are elevated is generally the same. This online training course covers aerial lifts and scissor lifts, the devices typically used to lift employees to elevated work sites. OSHA classifies boom-supported aerial platforms, such as cherry pickers or bucket trucks as aerial lifts.
The major causes of fatalities are falls, electrocutions, and collapses or tip overs. To ensure employees are safe, OSHA has many “safe work practices.” These include proper training in the safe use of the equipment, requiring employees to maintain and operated elevating work platforms in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines, and never overriding safety devices.
